Understanding Endocrinology
Endocrinologists are doctors who specialize in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of the body's endocrine system and metabolism. Endocrinologists are the specialty doctors for diabetes mellitus, thyroid diseases, disorders of bone and calcium metabolism, osteoporosis, disorders of lipid metabolism, disorders of the pituitary glands, the adrenals, and other hormonal and metabolism systems. The Endocrinologist is first trained as internal medicine specialists. Endocrinologists receive additional focused training to treat the disorders of the endocrine system and for metabolism.
